Challenge

Mwana Arts Space is a Community Based Organization that was founded in 2019. The name Mwana Arts Space was inspired by the Swahili word Mwana which means Child. The idea behind using the term Arts Space was to provide a safe space where children could express themselves freely and be themselves. The use of the word arts was to all aspects of the arts, that is diverse and inclusive literature i.e. poetry, stories, art in form of painting and drawing, and creating a hub for innovation and creativity. The Mwana Arts Space team approached us to create a visual identity that represents their brand values. In addition, they wanted a brand guideline that can clearly resonate with young children in Kenya.

Today, Mwana Art Space seeks to promote literacy for ALL children by giving them access to diverse and inclusive books. Through literature, children will be able to read books that they can relate to, be open-minded, improve their self-esteem, literacy skills and become life-long learners. With this in mind, we went to overdrive to create a simple contemporary logo that every child can identify. Working on a semi-pro-bono basis, Cchora Studio reimagined the already ambitious brand strategy; creating a new brand purpose statement that is simple, powerful, and actionable. It unites the organization internally, externally and helps to broaden Mwana Artss' reach.

To make the brand more inclusive, we created an accessible typeface and evolved the brand look and feel by adding a broader, vibrant color palette reflective of Mwana Arts Spaces' new attitude. Inspired by the love of space, we joined the adventure of space and the energy of children - allowing Mwana Arts' to create a space where young people can give back to the low-income communities using their talents and help children realize their potential.

“We’re thrilled to have worked with Cchora Studio whose expertise has helped us bring to life our brand refresh."
